Step 1. 사주 세우기Step 1. Setting Up Your Saju

사주를 보려면 먼저 태어난 연·월·일·시를 간지(干支)로 변환해야 합니다. 이 과정을 '사주를 세운다'고 표현합니다.

To read Saju, you first need to convert your birth year·month·day·hour into the stem-branch (干支) system. This process is called "setting up your Saju."

Step 2. 오행 분포 확인하기Step 2. Checking the Element Distribution

사주가 세워지면 여덟 글자의 오행 분포를 확인합니다. 어떤 오행이 많고 어떤 오행이 적은지를 파악하는 것이 사주 해석의 첫 단추입니다.

Once the Saju is set up, examine the distribution of the Five Elements across the eight characters. Identifying which elements are strong and which are weak is the first step in Saju interpretation.

Step 3. 일간(日干) 중심으로 해석하기Step 3. Interpreting Around the Day Stem

사주 해석의 핵심은 일간(日干)을 기준으로 다른 글자들의 관계를 보는 것입니다. 일간이 나 자신이라면, 나머지 글자들은 나를 둘러싼 환경·인연·사건을 나타냅니다.

The essence of Saju interpretation is examining relationships between all characters relative to the Day Stem (日干). If the Day Stem represents the self, the remaining characters represent the environment, connections, and events surrounding that self.

십성(十星)의 기본 개념The Ten Stars (十星) — Basic Concepts

일간과 다른 글자 사이의 오행 관계를 통해 십성(十星)이라는 것을 구합니다. 십성은 그 글자가 나에게 어떤 역할을 하는지를 알려줍니다.

The elemental relationships between the Day Stem and other characters produce Ten Stars (十星). Each Star tells you what role that character plays in your life.

• 비견·겁재(比肩·劫財): 나와 같은 오행 → 형제, 친구, 경쟁자
• 식신·상관(食神·傷官): 내가 낳는 오행 → 재능, 표현력, 자녀
• 정재·편재(正財·偏財): 내가 극하는 오행 → 재물, 아버지, 현실 능력
• 정관·편관(正官·偏官): 나를 극하는 오행 → 직업, 명예, 남편(여성)
• 정인·편인(正印·偏印): 나를 낳는 오행 → 학문, 어머니, 정신세계

• Companion / Rob Wealth (比肩·劫財): Same element as self → siblings, friends, rivals
• Eating God / Hurting Officer (食神·傷官): Element generated by self → talents, expression, children
• Correct / Indirect Wealth (正財·偏財): Element controlled by self → wealth, father, practical ability
• Correct / Indirect Officer (正官·偏官): Element controlling self → career, status, husband (for women)
• Correct / Indirect Seal (正印·偏印): Element generating self → learning, mother, spirituality

사주가 타고난 운이라면, 대운(大運)과 세운(歲運)은 시간에 따라 변하는 운입니다.

If the Saju chart represents innate fortune, then Major Luck (大運) and Annual Luck (歲運) represent fortune that changes with time.

대운(大運)Major Luck (大運)

10년 단위로 바뀌는 큰 운의 흐름입니다. 사주의 월주를 기준으로 순행 또는 역행하며, 대운이 바뀌는 시기에 인생의 큰 전환점이 오는 경우가 많습니다.

A major shift in fortune that changes every 10 years. It progresses forward or backward from the Month Pillar, and major life turning points often coincide with the transition between Major Luck periods.

세운(歲運)Annual Luck (歲運)

매년 돌아오는 그 해의 운입니다. 흔히 '올해의 띠'라고 하는 것이 세운의 지지에 해당합니다. 예를 들어 2025년은 을사(乙巳)년이므로, 을사의 오행이 개인의 사주와 어떻게 작용하는지에 따라 한 해의 길흉이 달라집니다.

The fortune of each year that cycles annually. What is commonly called "this year's zodiac" corresponds to the Earthly Branch of Annual Luck. For example, 2025 is the year of Eul-Sa (乙巳), and how the elements of Eul-Sa interact with one's personal Saju determines the year's fortunes.

사주 궁합은 두 사람의 사주를 비교하여 오행의 상생·상극 관계를 분석하는 것입니다.

Saju compatibility (궁합) compares two people's Saju charts to analyze their Five Elements generation and control relationships.

• 좋은 궁합: 서로의 부족한 오행을 보충해주는 관계. 예를 들어 수(水)가 많은 사람과 화(Fire)가 많은 사람은 서로를 균형 있게 만들어줍니다.
• 같은 오행이 많은 궁합: 공감대가 크지만, 부족한 부분도 같아서 함께 보완이 필요합니다.
• 상극 관계의 궁합: 갈등의 소지가 있지만, 적절한 긴장감이 서로를 성장시킬 수 있습니다.

• Strong compatibility: Each person supplements the other's weak elements. For example, a Water-dominant person and a Fire-dominant person can balance each other beautifully.
• Similar element compatibility: A strong sense of understanding, but shared weaknesses mean both need to grow in the same areas together.
• Control-cycle compatibility: Potential for tension, but the right amount of friction can drive both people to grow.

사주 해석에서 가장 주목받는 분야 중 하나가 일주론(日柱論)입니다. 일주론은 태어난 날의 간지(干支) 조합 — 일간(日干)과 일지(日支) — 만으로 그 사람의 핵심 기질, 배우자 성향, 직업 적성, 건강 경향을 심층 분석하는 방법론입니다.

One of the most prominent areas of Saju interpretation is Day Pillar Analysis (日柱論). It analyzes a person's core temperament, spouse tendencies, career aptitude, and health patterns based solely on the stem-branch (干支) combination of the birth date — the Day Stem (日干) and Day Branch (日支).

10천간 × 12지지의 순열로 만들어지는 60가지 일주(육십갑자, 六十甲子)는 각각 고유한 오행 에너지와 성격 특성을 지닙니다. 예를 들어:
